Maine Anjou cattle are a large breed of dual-purpose cattle originating from the Anjou region of western France. They are also called Maine Anjou and The red color of the prairies In French.
This breed is bred for both milk production and meat production, but has also been used as a draft animal in the past. The Maine Anjou cattle breed was created by Viscount Olivier de Rouge at Chenille-Changes in 1908. Currently, the breed is mainly used for beef production.
Cattle in northwestern France in the early 19th century were large and muscular. These animals were known as the Mancelle breed and were popular for being easy feeders.
