Changmigye chicken: characteristics, temperament and breed information

The changmigye chicken is a breed of long-tailed chicken native to the Mahan Confederation region of ancient Korea (modern North Korea). In Korea, it is called Ginkkori-Dak.

Currently, the breed is grown mainly for decorative purposes. Even if their number is limited. Several birds are available. Korea sits between China and Japan, and Chinese longtails are the ancestors of all Japanese longtails, and probably Jangmigye chicken as well.

But little is known about this breed of chickens. Much has been lost and forgotten. Now the Jangmije Chicken looks almost extinct. Some Koreans travel across the peninsula in search of chicken. Some are trying to restore the breed themselves.

Characteristics of Chicken Jangmige

Changmigye chicken is a beautiful breed that appeared in a single combed variety with a black breast, red or white plumage. Their plumage is extremely magnificent, but what makes them remarkable is that they have huge tails. Their tail and saddle feathers are luxuriously draped.

This breed has a lot in common with the German Phoenix chicken, which is descended from the Japanese long-tailed chicken. These chicks have a single red crest.

Their beards are also red, and their earlobes are described as red mixed with white or white. Their legs are dark gray or lead. They have red-brown eyes and yellow skin. Chickens lay eggs that are light brown in color and medium in size.

On average, a male changmigye weighs about 1.2-1.8 kg and a female about 0.8-1.3 kg. See this chicken breed’s full profile below. Photo from Pinterest.
