The Hays Converter is a breed of beef cattle primarily raised for meat production. He is from Alberta, Canada.
The breed was named after Harry Hayes, a farmer and politician who developed the breed.
Harry Hayes wanted to create a breed of cattle based solely on producing meat that was as mature or as marketable as possible.
He selects three specific breeds of cattle to obtain the optimum breed of cattle. He used Hereford, Holstein and Brown Swiss cattle to create this breed.
Hereford cows were bred for their high degree of fouling, Holsteins for their good strong legs and ability to produce plenty of milk, and Brown cows were bred for their ideal udder shape and ability to produce milk until the end of lactation. .
The Hays Converter cattle breed was the first purebred cattle raised in Canada. Development of the breed began in 1959 and in December 1975 it was officially recognized by the Canadian meat industry under the Canadian Pedigree Animals Act.
