Zhongwei Goat: Characteristics, Origins, Uses, and Complete Breed Information

The Zhongwei goat is a breed of goat that is mainly used for the production of kids and secondarily for the production of cashmere fiber. Originally from China.

In fact, the Zhongwei goat is native to the arid desert steppes of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and Gansu Province in China.

Characteristics of the Zhongwei goat

The Zhongwei goat is a small goat with a white coat. The male and the horns are present. But the antlers of the Zhongwei deer stretch upwards and twist.

Zhongwei goat is mainly used for the production of goat skins. They are also cultivated for the production of cashmere fiber.

Special Considerations

Zhongwei goats are hardy and strong animals. They live mainly, if not exclusively, on salty or sandy plants or shrubs. Maturity is reached at the age of five to six months. But they mate at 18 months.

The percentage of Zhongwei goats is 104-106%. The children are slaughtered for the skins at the age of 35 days. Their skins have shiny white braces and attractive curls.

The breed is also good for cashmere production. They produce around 120g of cashmere and around 140g of dollars. The cashmere percentage in the dollars and yarn is 25% of the total fleece. And the cashmere length is 7.0cm and 12.5 microns.
