Characteristics of the big-eyed horse mackerel
The body of the big-eyed horse mackerel is elongated and moderately compressed, the lower profile is somewhat more convex than the upper. It is blue-green or green on the back and sides, and white on the underside.
As the name suggests, the eyes of these fish are very large in relation to their body size. Their upper jaw is moderately wide at the tip and extends below the anterior edge of the pupil.
They have small, curved teeth. They have moderately small cycloid scales covering the body except for a small area behind the pectoral fins.
