Jersey cattle: breed information, characteristics, uses and origins

Jersey cattle are a relatively small breed of dairy cattle bred primarily for milk production. Originally bred in the Channel Islands of Jersey.

The breed is popular and famous for its high milk production and high milk fat content. The breed appears to have descended from a herd of cattle imported from neighboring mainland Normandy and was first recorded as a separate breed around 1700.

It was isolated from outside influences for more than two hundred years (in fact from 1789 to 2008). The breed is currently bred primarily for milk production and bred as a dairy cattle breed around the world. Learn more about the breed below.
