The Meishan pig is a breed of domestic pig originating in China. It was named after the Chinese prefecture of Meishan and is a subgroup of Taihu pigs.
He actually comes from southern China and is best known for his large litters of 15-16 piglets. It was imported to the United States in the late 1980s due to its prolific nature.
And the breed was imported to the United States by the USDA Agricultural Research Service.
But due to the abundance of fat and slower growth rates, the breed has not found much use on farms. But due to the early maturation of sows and boars, Meishan pigs are one of the most prolific pig breeds in the world.

Characteristics of the Meishan pig
The Meishan pig is a breed of small to medium sized domestic pig. He is mostly black in color and has large droopy ears. But he is known for his wrinkled face and skin.

The Meishan pig is a very prolific breed. It is a rather slow growing and fat animal, but it has an excellent palatability. The animals are quite hardy and resistant to certain diseases. They can consume large amounts of roughage.
Meishan pigs are well fed and contain farm by-products and aquatic plants as well as concentrates. It has a bacon thickness of 2.5 cm and a dressing percentage of 66.8%.
This breed is probably one of the most prolific pig breeds in the world and reaches sexual maturity at 2.5 to 3 months of age. It offers high embryo survival and has a large litter of 15-16 piglets.
