Parfene Cattle: Characteristics, Uses, and Full Breed Information

Parthenay cattle are a beef cattle breed from the Des-Sèvres department in western France. He is from the center of France, from the Breton border to the Charente basin.

The breed was named after the town of Parthenay, which was an important cattle market during the Middle Ages.

Parfaine cattle are believed to be one of the oldest French cattle breeds, with records dating back to the turn of the century. And the second half of the XIX century was the golden age of the breed.

The breed’s French studbook was established in 1893 and the Canadian studbook 100 years later.

The breed is currently available in many countries around the world. Exported to USA, Canada, UK, Ireland and some other countries.

Characteristics of Parfene Cattle

Parthené cattle are large animals with golden brown hair. Bulls and cows usually have horns and their horns are crescent shaped. They have paler eyes, muzzle and legs.

But their nose, hooves and tail are black. Adult bulls are about 145 cm tall and cows about 135 cm. Bulls weigh on average between 1150 and 1250 kg. And the average live weight of cows is about 700-900 kg. Photos and information from Wikipedia.

Advantages

Parfyon cattle were once used as dual purpose animals and were used for both milk and meat production. But at present they are mainly used as a beef cattle breed.

Special Notes

Parthena cattle are strong and hardy animals. In the past, the breed was used to produce quality milk, which was used to make butter and other dairy products. In the past, animals were also used for draft work.

They have excellent disease resistance. They have a good immune system and are unlikely to contract common livestock diseases.

The cows are very prolific and have excellent maternal abilities. The calves are mobile, strong and grow relatively faster.
