The Scania goose is a breed of domestic goose raised in Scania, Sweden. It is also known as south swedish goose and Swedish: Skanegas.
It was developed in the towns of Womb and Hunneberg towards the end of the 19th century. The breed was actually bred from German waterfowl that were brought in by Swedish soldiers in the 1700s.
It is believed that these German geese were Pomeranians and were interbred with the local goose population.

Scania Goose specs
The Scania goose is a large breed similar to the Pomeranian goose. It is the largest and heaviest breed of goose in Sweden.
The plumage of the birds is usually white with brown-grey feathers on the head, back, neck, thighs and rump. The legs and beak of these birds are orange, and the tip of the beak is flesh-colored.

The Scania goose is a very hardy breed. Southern Sweden is hardy enough to spend an entire year outdoors. Relatively calm temperament, but during the breeding season can become very aggressive.
Geese lay an average of about 20-30 eggs per year, some birds can lay up to 40 eggs. Their eggs are very large, weighing up to 200 grams. It is a long-lived bird and some geese can live for over 30 years. The birds are generally well behaved and are excellent parents.
