Ice Pigeon: Characteristics, Origins, Uses, and Breed Information

The ice pigeon is a breed of domestic pigeon originating from Germany. It is known as Polish: Lazurek and German: ice dove.

It is one of the oldest German breeds of colored pigeons, resulting from many years of selective breeding.

The breed actually comes from southern Germany. It was first bred in the region from eastern Germany to western Poland, with the first prunings in Saxony and Silesia.

The ice dove and other varieties of domestic pigeons are descendants of the feral or feral dove. It is known that in 1856, Charles Darwin crossed the ice dove to determine the color patterns.

This work came out only three years before its pioneering publication On the Origin of Species. It is a feathered breed from Saxony, Silesia and Lausitz.
