Black Hereford cattle: characteristics and information about the breed

Black Hereford cattle are a breed of cattle primarily bred for meat production. It is originally descended from Hereford cattle, but with a mix of Black Angus cattle.

The Black Angus mix resulted in black colored cattle with a white head and finches. Late John Gage established American Association of Negroes Hereford as a not-for-profit corporation in 1994.

And in 1997, the first black Herefords were registered and qualified for registration. In 2003, the breed received international recognition. National Association of Animal Breeds.

By 2005, the association had established its own expected offspring difference (EPD) ratios for individual animals. These EPD ratios help producers use performance data from each animal and its offspring to accurately predict the performance of future offspring.

Characteristics of Black Hereford Cattle

Black Hereford cattle are indistinguishable in size and appearance from the original Hereford cattle, except for coloring. It is mainly a black breed of white-headed cattle and finches.
