Saithe is a species of marine fish of the genus Pollachius. It is also called by many other names such as Sillock, Pudler, Pollock, Kench Medicine, Gloshan, Glassan, Green Cod, American Pollock, Carbon, Billet, Kohli etc
It is found in the Barents Sea and from Svalbard to the Celtic Sea, as well as along southern Iceland. It is found along southwestern Greenland and Hudson Strait to North Carolina in the western Atlantic.

Characteristics of saithe
The saithe has a small barbel at the end of the lower jaw. The lateral line is regular over the entire length.
The back is usually brownish green, slightly lighter below. Their fins are body color except for the pale pelvic fins. The lateral line is also pale.

Diet
Small saithe in coastal waters feed on small crustaceans and small fish. But large fish feed mainly on fish.

Saithe usually reaches maturity when it is 5 to 10 years old. But the European population matures in 3 years. They appear in groups.
Spawning usually occurs in late fall and winter, but begins in September and ends in March in the western North Atlantic (peaking November through February).
On average, females can lay between 220,000 and 4,000,000 eggs per clutch depending on their size.
