Red Razor Chicken: Traits, Temperament, and Breed Information

The Red Razor Chicken is a dual purpose breed bred in Canada. In fact, there are not as many breeds of chickens in Canada as in the neighboring country. There are only two breeds of chickens in Canada. One is a Chantecler chick and the other is a Red Shaver chick.

The breed was bred primarily for home use or small farms rather than commercial use. Red Shaver is a breed of sex-related chicks, which means they can be separated visually after hatching or at a very young age. The Bentham variety of this chicken breed does not exist.

Characteristics of the Red Razor Chicken

These hens are very beautiful birds. Roosters and hens are easy to separate. Adult hens are red-brown with white down, and roosters are white with small red spots.

This breed of chickens has a single red comb. Usually roosters have a larger comb than hens. And roosters are much more beautiful than hens. They have red warts and earlobes.

Behaviour/Temperament

These chickens are often considered calm and quiet birds. They are friendly and also a very hardy breed. As a dual-purpose breed, this chicken produces a large amount of eggs and is also suitable for meat production.

Chickens can lay 305-315 eggs per year. They lay large brown eggs. If you are looking for a good breed for your small farm, this breed of chicken may be a good choice for you.
