Murcian goat: characteristics, origins, uses and complete information on the breed

The Murcian goat is a domestic breed of dual-purpose domestic goat from southeastern Spain. In fact, Mercian goats are raised in the province of Murcia on the Mediterranean coast in southeastern Spain.

The breed is suitable for both meat and dairy products. It is also called by other names such as murcian, Murcian, Murcian and Royal Murciana. Along with several other Spanish goat breeds, the Mercian goat was well known in Spain in the early 16th century.

The breed was available in the United States in the 1920s. And in the 1930s, the Murchian goat was one of the goat breeds from which La Mancha goats were bred.

The breed was bred and tamed in the province of Murcia in Spain, hence its name. And the main goat breeding areas of Murcia are located in the Region of Murcia, in the communities of Jumilla and Yecla.

Characteristics of the Murcian breed goat

The Murcian goat is a medium-sized animal with shorter ears and tail than many other goat breeds. Their ears are placed horizontally and have the same shape as those of Swiss breeds such as Saanen, Alpines and Oberhaslies.

Relative to their size, they are known to be excellent milk producers, particularly high in milk fat. They are very prolific and do not require a specific breeding season. They have a fine coat that ranges from mahogany to dark in color. And their udder is well developed.
