Lohi sheep: characteristics, origin, use and breed information

The Lohi sheep is a breed of domesticated sheep from Pakistan. It is mainly found in southern Punjab in Pakistan. It is one of the best breeds of sheep in Pakistan, also known as Parkanni.

The breed is primarily used for carpet-grade wool production, as well as for meat production. Some sources also say the breed originated in India.

Their native region is Rajasthan, and they are mainly distributed in Churu, Ganganagar and Junjhunu regions of Rajasthan, the southern part of Hissar and Rohtak regions in Haryana. However, for more information on this breed, read below.

Characteristics of the Lohi sheep

The Lohi sheep is a medium-sized animal, usually with a white body. Their fleece is dense, coarse and long-fibered. Their forehead is covered with hair and their face is light brown in color.

Their skin is usually pink in color and their ears are large and leafy. Usually rams and sheep are polled, that is, they have no horns. The belly of the sucker sheep is covered with wool and the legs are also covered with wool.

The average height of an adult ram is about 65.25 ± 0.74 cm at the withers and 64.11 ± 0.13 cm in the ewe. They produce medium wool with a fiber diameter of about 39.8 m.
