Goat pox: how to fight disease and save animals

Smallpox is a very deadly contagious disease. This disease is caused by the goat pox virus belonging to the poxviridae and capripox species. This disease severely affects goats.

Smallpox was first introduced to India in 1936. The germ of this disease is spread through the air, food and used equipment of infected goats.

symptoms

  • Body temperature rises more than usual.
  • Smallpox blisters can be seen in a goat’s eyes, nose, ears and skin.
  • Later, this bubble turned red.
  • The blister may become painful.
  • Water flows from the nose and painful sensations are visible in the nose.
  • The eyelids swell.
  • The upper part of the skin is removed and a solid scab forms.
  • The lymph node swells.

Methods of prevention and treatment

Vaccinate a healthy animal regularly and in a timely manner. The animal must be kept hygienically. Control the environment in which germs spread. The cold is the main enemy of the goat. Most importantly, keep them out of the rain.

Have them vaccinated and give them a prophylactic dewormer as recommended by your veterinarian. Always give them fresh, clean water and food.
